Introduction - Thank you!

Hello!

Before I begin I want to say thank you for your messages regarding my last blog post: “WEAR YOUR NEW CLOTHES.”

I've always struggled with learning to enjoy the present without feeling guilty, so it means a lot that that idea resonated with the people I care about.

Also, thank you to everyone who’s signed up for my email list this week!

My goal is to hit 50 email subscribers by the end of the year and we’re already over halfway to that goal!

So, to celebrate this milestone I wanted to go back to a foundational question - why do I love fashion?

So, I’m gonna tell you a story about a jacket that changed my entire week.

The jacket that changed my entire week

Imagine this, you’re at work after the holiday break and everything seems to be going crazy. The weather’s getting colder, demands going up, and everything is moving faster.

As I walked to the cafeteria for lunch, I saw this woman heading to the bathroom wearing a jacket so beautiful I had to stop in the middle of the staircase to stare at it.

Unaware that I was interrupting traffic, I made myself focus so I could remember everything I could about this jacket before it disappeared forever.

I remembered this.

It was a pattern-blocked suit jacket with a puff-shoulder and flare sleeve that was half brown plaid with a red accent and half light brown plaid with a blue accent. It had a brown button, fitted waist, and was worn buttoned.

When she disappeared into the bathroom I turned around and briskly walked to my desk to sketch this jacket with every detail I could remember.

Who needs to eat during their lunch break? This was more important.

My mind was racing with questions as I sketched the jacket. Was this going to be the new style? When am I going to see this jacket in the store? Will I see this woman wearing this jacket again? Will I be able to wear a jacket like this?

The multitude of questions all centered around one thing - excitement for the future.

Unbeknownst to the woman in the jacket, this blazer gave me so much to look forward to.

I was looking forward to going home and finishing my sketch of that jacket so I could talk about it with my mom.

The jacket also reminded me of a previous conversation with my best friend about the importance of wearing new clothes which inspired me to get back into blogging.

In short, this jacket is one of many pieces of clothing that’ve given me excitement for the future and the motivation to get through the day.

Fashion is my motivation

Have you ever read a book that you can’t put down?

That’s what fashion is to me.

I know, I know, I know that at its core fashion is just fabric and thread, but if you look deeper fashion is so much more than that.

Fashion is the most social art form I know.

By looking at what people are wearing I get to meet many people.

From their clothes, I can know where they come from, what they believe, and who they want to be - all of which make me so excited to leave the house every day.

Because of fashion, I have to keep showing up, or else I’ll miss the next chapter of this incredible story.

Conclusion

Fashion is one of my biggest motivations and this is why I started this blog - to help others discover the joy of clothing.

My mission is to help you dress in style with confidence and enthusiasm.

With Spring 2025 coming up I plan to write about spring trends for men, spring trends for women, finding your personal sense of style, and confidence.

P.S. - I’ve been loving blue recently, and although it didn’t end up being the color of 2025, I still think it’s a beautiful replacement for red/burgundy. I wore it to the botanical gardens last Saturday and received a ton of compliments! I think it’s the perfect color for someone who wants to feel sophisticated with something they already own, but more on that next week. : )))
