Introduction

After my senior thesis, it took Instagram a while to remember that I'm a man who wears clothes that aren't office dresses and blouses.

Regardless, I'm thankful because it's allowed me to get recommended menswear brands that I wouldn't have otherwise noticed.

And there's a lot to talk about.

But today, I wanted to write about Perte D'ego, a men's luxury brand that's known for its leisured and sophisticated take on men's resort wear.

Brand Description

Founded in 2018, Perte D'ego is a vibrant Indian menswear brand that Vogue described as, "a never-ending celebration of life ... that (brings out) rich Indian history and craftsmanship on a global scale."

With travel being one of the designer's biggest inspirations, global culture is a core value of the brand.

Each season founder/designer Utkarsh Mithas pulls pictures from his vacations abroad to pull together a creative direction for each season which is then developed into the core styles and prints of the brand.

Perte D'ego is known for its high-quality button-down shirts with embroidered prints that range from rabbits to hot air balloons.

To match, you'll always find matching lightweight pants and blazers.

My Thoughts

I think there's a lot to like here.

In a fashion era where everyone seems to be starting a clothing brand, I've gotten used to seeing new brands that don't seem to have anything new to offer the market, but that's not Perte D'ego.

Perte D'ego's unique design aesthetic gives the brand a special place in retail and my wardrobe (assuming I one day have a friend with a boat).

However, I am a bit skeptical of the "timeless" element of the brand because of its timely nature at the time of writing.

Summer 2024 was a season characterized by hedonistic vacationing and natural escapism.

So, it's easy to see why a brand like this would be succeeding right now.

Perte D'ego has an aesthetic that values vacation that, while beloved by many, isn't timeless.

As Summer 2024 closes, I wonder if the brand's camp collar, linen, and floral aesthetic will remain relevant to mass-market consumers.

However, with a stand-out aesthetic that came from a University of Maryland dorm room, I don't think Perte D'ego unique product offering is going away easily.

Conclusion

I know I always say this, but there's a lot to like here.

If you're looking for a brand that's optimistic, high-concept, and unique I think Petre D'ego could be a great choice for you.

Petre D'ego is a great reminder of the power of creativity in fashion and the joy that comes from someone being brave enough to make something new.
