Introduction
Today, I want to introduce a trend that has nothing to do with clothing.
I want to tell you about the trend against trends.
Every month there's a new set of colors and styles that are "in" only to be thrown away three months later for the newest style.
Take men's denim, for example.
Over the past two years we've worn white wash, medium wash, camo, khaki, and now—baggy workwear jeans?

The constant pressue to keep with the trends is EXHAUSTING!
But what I find the most frustrating is that this cycle is killing three essential components of fashion: experimentation, failure, and personal style.
The Freedom to Experiment
A culture that shames consumers for not adhering to trends actively discourages experimentation.
This is bad for numerous reasons.
1) Lack of Innovation - When people are afriad to step outside of what's "in," we lose the ability to try new things
2) Imbalance of Power - The fashion industry decides what we wear instead of consuemrs deciding what they want for themselves.
3) Fear of Mistakes - People become afraid of looking "cringe" or out of style, which mutes the spirit of innovation fashion is known for.
Normalization of Failure & Imperfection
One of the most important elements of fashion is failure.
Trying new things, failing, and learning is an essential part of fashion because it teaches you how to dress better and how to celebrate the imperfections that make you you.
If fashion is supposed to be a wearable reflection of humanity, and humans are imperfect, then fashion should be imperfect.
But lately it feels like people are obsessed with being perfect.
Consumers conform to the trends that are given to them out of a fear of wearing the "wrong thing."
And I hate this.
Having taken my personal style from being something that's "cringe" to something that's celebrated online, I know first-hand that in order to get to a place of success you have to be willing to fail publicly.
For example, when I first started wearing cardigans I had no idea what I was doing.

These outfits were BAD, and that's okay!
Over time, I got better at wearing them, and now I consider them to be an essential part of my professional wardrobe.

In the moment, I found it to be scary, but I now see trying and failing as an essential part of style that needs to be embraced again by fashion.
Personal Style: The Trend of 2025
I predict that neglecting trends in favor of a personal style that celebrates you is going to be the main trend of 2025.
Radical individualitiy and the confidence to wear clothes that radiate who you are is an essential part of fashion that has been missing the last couple of years.
I long for a cultural return to the stylistic freedom of the 1980s and late 2000s, and this might be just around the corner.
With the contuation of old trends, that trends are beginning to slow down, leaving time for everyone to experiment and develop their own personal aesthetic.
