Introduction

Of the stores fighting for my attention right now, I figured that the classics would win but, to my surprise, Banana Republic has emerged as a front-runner.

I don’t consider myself to be a “quiet” person, so when it comes to the clothes I’m known for wearing - Banana Republic's high-quality basics aren’t on the list.

Also, I’ve never really had the energy to consider investing in clothes long-term.

I buy most things with the intent of wearing them for three years tops, so a brand that I always thought of as “nice but boring” was never really going to be my cup of tea.

However, over the past three-ish months Banana Republic has shown that below its simplistic exterior lies a fashion-forward powerhouse of a brand that is the star of the GAP portfolio.

This Pre-Fall

Coming out of the summer of linen, Banana Republic Pre-Fall 2024 approaches the themes of vacation and leisure through a more masculine lens.

Here we see utility pockets, enforced stitching, and, my personal favorite, SUEDE LEATHER EVERYTHING!

Now, I haven’t talked about it yet because we’re still in Pre-Fall, but this season, cowboy is in, and Banana Republic is not afraid of it.

If you look closely you’ll see many cowboy details: leather jackets, contrasting denim stitches, and fringe

Core Trend - Ankles Out

Those of you who knew me in high school unfortunately remember when I was obsessed with “cuffing” my jeans, which makes it hard to watch the ankle parade slowly come back in style.

But, fashion is a reminder that culture is constantly moving and, in many ways, you either get in or get out (laughed at by your younger brother).

I’ve wanted to buy a pair of penny loafers for a while now and, if I mustered the nerve to buy more clothes, this style of dress shoe would be the first thing I’d buy.

Likewise, I haven’t decided if I’ll be buying, but definitely will be obsessing.

They’re stylish, dressy, casual, and just reek of “I KNOW HOW TO PUT AN OUTFIT TOGETHER” in a way that makes them such an enticing buy.

Conclusion

With new silhouettes, fabrics, and themes, Banana Republic is shaping up to be my favorite child of the GAP family.

Slowly but surely it’s becoming a core classic and I couldn’t be more excited.

P.S. - I wasn't kidding. My ankles were out ALL of high school, and do I regret it? Not at all. But do I want it to come back in style? More on that later ...
